Program Description: Founded in 1906, William Carey University is a fully accredited Christian university located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The university currently offers bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, and the doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degrees. The first medical school class was admitted in the fall of 2010. The Master of Biomedical Science (MBS) program at William Carey University offers post-baccalaureate students an opportunity to pursue graduate study in the biomedical sciences. The program provides preparation for the professional study of medicine, both osteopathic (D.O.) and allopathic (M.D.), dentistry, and many other health-related sciences. The program also offers students a versatile non- thesis master’s degree that can be used for career preparation in science education, biomedical research, and for preparation for advanced graduate study (Ph.D.) in the biomedical sciences. Graduate students in the MBS program will take courses alongside first year medical students in WCU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. The curriculum places emphasis on structure and function in a medical context. The curriculum consists of the following courses which are scheduled over approximately ten months: histology, human gross anatomy, embryology & medical genetics, medical neuroanatomy, medical immunology, current topics in biomedical science, and a choice of either medical biochemistry or medical physiology. Review of applications will begin in January and end July 1. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. Accreditation: William Carey University is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Eligibility Requirements: Requirements for admission to the MBS program are • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with transcripts, including the following courses: Physics—8 credit hours including laboratories General Chemistry—8 credit hours including laboratories Organic Chemistry—8 credit hours including laboratories Biology—12 credit hours • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) score or Dental Admissions Test (DAT) score or Graduate Record Exam (GRE) • Three letters of recommendation (academic) • Completion of the MBS application form • One page personal statement # of Credits Required: 34-35
